Alexandre Giquel Gamay 2019
'Although Alexandre is the newest vigneron in Vouvray, he has been well implanted in the world of winemaking for over a decade. He has been training horses to work in the vineyard and has travelled across France and especially the Loire valley with these horses to help others cultivate in this way. Alexandre worked alongside Philippe Chigard from La Table Rouge and learned a lot from him. He is native to Vouvray and so it seemed logical for him, after his years of travel, to come back and work his block of land in this way. He makes Vouvray and Gamay in his own vineyard of 3 hectares, with some vines of 90 years old. All his vines are planted on clay with silex, with a subsoil of Tuffeau.
His vineyards are managed organically and everything is done by hand and horse; tractor is too difficult in this part of the world. Only indigenous yeasts used, unfined and unfiltered.
Darker style of Gamay here, black fruit, powerful with a nice freshness and silky tannins. Carbonic maceration Elevage of 6 months in old barrels. Unfined, unfiltered and minimum sulphites added.'
