Tyrrell’s Four Acres 2018
'I went through all the Private Bin release reds with Chris Tyrrell yesterday, it being the 14th year running this time, and was also lucky enough to be presented with a set of 4 Acres from 2006 to 2018, with only the inaugural 2004 missing. More on that later. These wines only very recently bottled.
White flower, liquorice, spice, boysenberry, raspberry – freshness and fragrance, but with depth and a subtle earthiness. Medium-bodied, bursts with earthy purple fruit, energising to drink, driving long and spicy through the finish. Acidity underlines the wine very clearly this vintage, though the tannin is smooth and massed, laying quiet and authoritative. A sprinkle of dried herb in the aftertaste. Great. More class from this terrific vineyard.'
