Nicolas Joly Clos De La Bergerie 2013 - AOC La Roche Aux Moines
You can feel the minerality and the richness of the vineyard on the nose. A wonderful mixture of slightly smoky aromas, apricot peel and stone, dried fig and poached pear. The taste of lemon peel, ripe grapefruit flesh, pomelo, pineapple and a touch of the exotic are the first flavours in the mouth, then vegetable aromas of nettle, elderflower and hay come through. At the end there is coriander, crushed cumin and a little allspice.
Balance, precision, and a beautifully long finish - everything you expect from Nicolas Joly wines.
'It carries another appellation : Savennières Roche aux Moines. The Middle Age of the vines is approximately 25 years. The grounds also made up of schists are a little thicker (30 with 80cm approximately). The outputs are of 25/30 hectolitres per hectare (50 authorized).
The slopes less marked than for Casting are directed towards the east. The wine makings are made out of wood (never more than new wood 5%) and produce approximately 8/10 000 bottles per annum.'
