Domaine Chignard, Fleurie Les Moriers 2018
'As always this is bright, focused, and energetic, the fruit-filled Fleurie "Les Moriers 2018" reflects its outstanding terroir with good concentration and a superb depth not usually found in the wines of Fleurie. In 2018, a vintage that displays attractive, forward charm it carries the scent of wild sweet dark strawberries and plum skin. It's very lush and vivid, tasting generous and fluid with great vibrancy - the vines average 80 years old and 'Les Moriers' has been known as one of the legendary vineyards of the Beaujolais for a few hundred years and this is it's best example.
'I seem to have missed, or not reviewed, the 2016 and 2017, which is odd, given I love this producer. Must have been busy doing something else at the time… Average age of vines is 80 years old, and gee, when Fleurie is good, it’s compelling for its perfume and energy, not least its 100 watt charm.
Ripe red berries, perfume, almond paste and spice, a pleasant whiff of permanent marker. Medium-bodied, juicy but with freshness of just ripe strawberry acidity, depth of fruit, something like a cocoa powder quality to the tannin, brightness and tang on a long clean finish. Yes.'
