Domaine de la Tourlaudiere, Bohale Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur Lie 2019
This little estate is located in Vallet, the heart of Muscadet, near the city of Nantes and not far from the Atlantic coast. The family vineyard has been running since the 17th century and Romain’s father started his first vintage in 1976. Romain is now is taking over the estate and has converted most of the vineyard to organic practices. He has also been experimenting with a few of the cuvees since he came on board in 2007, blending modern winemaking techniques with traditional ones. A winemaker to watch in the coming years, making incredible and eclectic white wine from the famous Melon de Bourgogne variety.
'Bo hale! Or something like that. Is there anything better than muscadet if you need a match for oysters? No.
This is a more textural, richer style of muscadet, still with laser-like acidity and all the lovely sea spray and saline characters you’d like, but here a little more nougat, nuttiness and savoury yeasty character, which is great anyways. Preserved lemon, some ripe apple, a nice crunch to the finish. Complex expression, let’s say. Great stuff.'
