Express Winemakers Tempranillo 2017
'The 2017 vintage saw the first time we harvested fruit from a vineyard we managed ourselves, why stop at one we thought and decided we'd look after two vineyards, both using organic practices. Most of the Tempranillo in this blend comes from the second of these vineyards, in the northern reaches of the Mount Barker sub-region, with the balance of Tempranillo and Garnacha from bush vines in Frankland River. All fruit was hand picked and 100% whole bunch fermented by native yeasts, before maturation in old oak barriques for seven months, bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Possibly our best Tempranillo to date. Really happy with the spice provided by the stalks and the bright flavours and natural acidity retained by harvesting early. Nose of dried herbs, black olives and dark berries. The palate is full and generous, with cherries and pink musk sticks with lasting powdery Tempranillo tannin.'
