Hervé Souhaut Syrah 2016
Sought after producer from St-Joseph in the Rhône Valley who makes quality Roussanne, Viognier, and Syrah. He also makes a Gamay as Vin de Pays, not because it is inferior in quality but because Gamay not being part of the AOC of Rhône. All grapes are hand harvested, with minimal intervention and a touch of Sulphur added at bottling. Only a small allocation of these due to the high demand.
The Syrah comes from a tiny parcel of land along the slopes of the Doux River and the vines are on average 50 years old. This beauty has a most expansive and pretty profile of violets, black cherry, flowers and wet stone all billow out of the glass. The palate echoes the aroma and the tannins that gradually frame the finish are in the featherweight division and only serve to highlight the vibrant components of this lithe, fresh and captivating Syrah. So good!
