Konpira Maru Epicus Doomicus Metalicus Mourvedre 2018

'Classic Queensland storms came crackling through over the cane fields at the worst time in the South Burnett this year, making the red grape harvest challenging, limiting yields and quality. After weeks of stress which eventually turned to desperation, a true hail mary moment occurred as the man, the legend, Coxy! appeared through the dark clouds. His sustainable vineyard in Stanthorpe is surrounded by a beautiful dry grown apple and pear orchard on what seems to be a solid granite boulder. His usual clients were not happy with the vintages lower than normal baume of the Mourvedre but it suited our style perfectly. Personally driven to Murgon by the man himself, a beautiful relationship was born

Monticello Estate, Stanthorpe, QLD

100% Mourvedre. 100% whole bunch fruit was bucketed into stainless tank for ferment. Light peage throughout ferment ensuring whole berries remained and basket pressed after 12 days. The wine was then left in tank, racked 3 times and bottled unfined, unfiltered with no additions.  11.7% abv, 1216 bottles.

Tasting note:

Bright and generous dark plummy fruit with whole bunch spice and subtle earthy tones. The palate is both powerful but also shows delicacy and restraint with the granitic soils really shining, providing grip, structure and layers of texture.'
