Konpira Maru Jimmykata 2019
'Finally! The return of our Gymkata Syrah’s younger sibling – Jimmykata! This vintage has produced the ultimate spring-time red with some serious Italian twang to really spice things up.
It was a phone call while sleeping by the fire in the hills that got this gem over the line – far too early for anyone to take, but in a hungover, sleep-deprived state we answered. Our reward? Access to some seriously fun Italians that would take the raspberries in our wine to sarsaparilla.
You’re gonna love this one!
Site: Shiraz Alpine Valleys, Sagrantino/Schioppettino Heathcote, Pinot Noir/Meunier Whitlands.
Production: 70% Shiraz which was fermented separately with lots of whole berry, basket pressed after 7 days while still fermenting and transferred to stainless. The other varieties were co-fermented together at roughly the same time as the Shiraz, whole berries and about 10% whole bunch. These were left to ferment and pressed after roughly 10 days. The two wines were then blended together while finishing ferment. Bottled after 2 rackings and ageing in tank for roughly 4 months. Unfined and unfiltered with a touch of sulphur added at bottling. 13.4%. 3398 bottles.
Tasting notes: Bright primary red berry fruits with sarsaparilla on the nose. The palate is soft and plump with a touch of grip and a nice savoury edge. The ultimate spring party wine and great chilled out of the fridge.'
