Mada Wines Riesling 2018
'From the talented young winemaker Hamish Young, he who did time at Eden Road Wines and now has this label under his own steam. He focuses on Canberra District but seeks fruit more broadly, though this is his home-region homage. It sees time as whole berries (so, some skin fermentation) and is raised in ceramic and stainless steel vessels. Nice wine this.
Let me stutter, nice wine this. Full of textural detail, velocity of limey acidity, floral-gingery perfume, edgy-chalky mineral charm and a belt of green apple crunch. It sits with authority in the palate, a screech of tang and talc whooshing across the tongue in a saber like thrust of flavour; no knitting needles and linear stuff here. Refreshing as it is, it asks a drinker to not quite just guzzle, but pause to consider the pinpoints of interest along the way. Straight up delicious, if you boil it down, however. A different and successful take on the regional staple.'
