Maison B. Perraud Pouilly Fuissé 2015
We really love white Burgundy, but I always find its so expensive, so when we find a chardonnay from the region that is affordable we jump on it. This is Pouilly Fuissé (100% Chardonnay) from Solutré. Not to mention 2015 being a cracking vintage in Burgundy.
'The 40-year-old vines are farmed by the daughter of famed Mâcon producer Domaine Valette. It is a high-density planting and has been certified biodynamic. Stainless steel only and aged on fine lees. Natural yeast. No filtration. 300 dozen total production. All the work is done in the vineyard so very little needs to be done in the winery.
A great nose that combines exotic dried fruits, crushed stone, flowers and elegant hint of reduction that reminded me of Riesling. Then perfectly suave and smooth on the palate, with terrific acidity and minerality as well as a note of ginger. Wonderful tension. Fine grained, very seductive wine with sneaky subtle length. Leaves the mouth feeling refreshed.'
