Michael Hall, Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2022
For us, one of the best Sauv Blancs to come out of Australia. Extremely enjoyable young, but also with age. We have drunk some up to 8 years old, and they were still drinking exceptionally well.
“Arguably the finest sauvignon of the region, as tightly embedded amidst a latticework of quality oak as it is free-flowing and creamy following barrel fermentation and time on lees. Nettle and hedgerow segue to mirabelle plum and yellow fruits, all jettisoned to compelling length by a juicy skein of acidity. The verdant underbelly asserting savouriness over obvious fruit. A sense of immaculate poise, tension and layered complexity. Excellent wine.”

'Sauvignon Blanc is a variety that owes much of its popularity to the Marlborough boom, though its history far preceeds that, most notably with the barrel fermented styles that coined the term “fumé blanc”. Grown at Coleman Road in Gumeracha at an elevation of 480m and a westerly aspect.
For wine nerds like me: Average winter rains were followed by a mild summer. Yields were low with light bunches of excellent quality. Picked on the 18th of March, 10% fermented on skins, the remainder pressed and wild fermented in French oak puncheons. Matured for eight months in barrel, filtered and bottled.
2770 bottles produced.'
