Nick Spencer Pinot Gris 2019
'Nick Spencer’s vision for breaking down wine barriers and investing in ‘other regions’ and championing ‘other styles’ is pretty darn impressive and good. Anyway, here’s one of his few mono-varietal wines, and it’s a cracker. Styled classically, you could say. Picked reasonably ripe from the Freeman Vineyard of Hilltops (Prunevale). A little residual sugar hangs out for weight too, very low though.
Slick and rolling long on slippery, pear and green apple flavours. Perfumed too, floral notes of jasmine with more nashi pear and a faint green herbal note. Complex, layered, intense. A very good example of the variety done with complexity and detail in mind. Excellent. Proper.'
