Rippon Sauvignon Blanc 2019
'If the names Dagueneau, Vatan or Cotat ring any bells then you can slide this sauvignon blanc from Mills (Rippon) right alongside. Remarkable white wine here. Nothing is overlooked at Rippon so even the so often-pedestrian white variety sauvignon blanc is exceptional, if not, remarkable here. Rarely do you see a wine with so much ‘minerality’ but this one gives you a yardstick for that esoteric, nebulous, concept. And I love the sense of minerality in white wines.
Quite an amazing white wine here. Coursing with a thick pulse of saline-stony minerality, squeezes of lime and lemon, a lick of passionfruit and grassiness. It is compact and precise across the palate, bristles with a sense of energy, finishes incredibly long and with the faintest, pleasing, salty cashew flavour residual. It’s a wine of immense presence in the palate, less so in the bouquet, the magic is in texture, acidity, that quixotic, saline-esque electricity. So very delicious too. You want more. It demands you drink it.'
