Roborel De Climens, Finish Sauvignon du Clos Floridène, Cru des Graves de Bordeaux 40° - French Whiskey

French Whiskey finished in a Sauvignon Blanc barrel from the sub region of Graves in Bordeaux. 40% ABV

A new French whisky has just landed on our shores, from Roborel De Climens based in Alsace, France. They are keen to make sure everything about the whisky is 100% French. From where the grain comes from, to the distillery that the spirit is made, to even only using barrels that are sourced from France. They only use French Wine casks, but they have a strict rule where they like to have the barrels filled with their new make in less than a week after the barrels have been emptied of wine to stop the barrels drying out and the influence of the grape variety lost. The other interesting fact is that they try to use barrels that have not seen any Sulphur, having tried many wine casks and finding very few that we really enjoy, we reckon that sulphur plays a large part in giving wine casks a muted/harsh note. To be able to taste these whiskies and clearly discern what varietal they were was fantastic. These are extremely well priced and great sipping whiskies for the warmer weather.

'New artisanal single malt whiskies created by Aymeric Roborel de Climens, an ex-oenologist and winemaker that worked for more than 20 years for different producers in Bordeaux. These whiskies are 100% French from the beginning to the end, using their old family distillery and all the resources sourced from within the country. With his experience in the wine industry, Aymeric selects the best barrels from each winery for the aging, from six to 18 months and creates a strong identity, profile and aroma for each release. He has been using mainly Cognac, Merlot and Sauternes barrels but recently has created a whisky aged in Banyuls barrel (similar to a sherry cask) and has partnered with a Muscadet producer to use their amphoras, creating something really special and rare.'
