Simon Gastrein 'L'Enclume' Rouge 2021
Organic natural wine from Northern Rhone. This is a blend of 80% Syrah, 10% Gamay, 10% Mornen noir.
On the nose, the wine opens up with lovely notes of red berries, blackcurrant, and a balsamic touch. After a good decanting, more floral hints emerge, such as violet and dried rose petals.
The palate is incredibly indulgent, with the fruit bursting forth. Then, more subtle notes make their appearance. You can distinguish hints of peony and a touch of red currant jam. The freshness balances the flavours beautifully, making the wine clear and precise; it's simply sublime. Very easy drinking with only 10% ABV.
Emerging from a culinary background, Simon honed his palate in the vineyards under the guidance of his grandfather, a passionate wine enthusiast. After some exploratory travels, he returned to collaborate with his mentor and the esteemed producer André Perret in Condrieu and Saint-Joseph. Since 2017, Simon has made Bessey his home, crafting expressive and delightful wines that reflect the region’s clayey, mineral terroir.
