L’Aide-Mémoire is a beautiful reminder that Pinot Noir in the Jura is not simply Burgundy-lite. It has its own voice: lighter, earthier, more savoury and often a little wilder.
The 2016 sits in that lifted Bornard style, with red cherry, wild strawberry, cranberry, dried herbs, mushroom, spice, forest floor and a fine mineral edge. With age, the fruit has softened and the wine has moved into a more savoury, autumnal place, showing that lovely Jura mix of freshness, earth and umami.
This is not a glossy or heavily extracted Pinot. It is delicate, textural and expressive, with fine tannin, bright acidity and plenty of character. A wine for people who like their Pinot with perfume, savoury detail and a little natural-wine energy.
