Domaine Marc Kreydenweiss Clos Rebgarten 2020
An expressive orange wine with lifted aromas of lychee, rose, peony and sweet spices, rounded by subtle hints of honey and tobacco. The palate is rich yet smooth, carried by fine, supple tannins that give gentle structure and a refreshing balance. Floral and spicy notes linger through the finish. Made from a week-long skin maceration, whole-bunch slow pressing, indigenous fermentations and a year on lees in demi-muids. Bottled unfiltered with no added sulphites.
A superb little vineyard (0.1 ha) within a high walled Clos literally in the centre of the village of Andlau, surrounded by the town buildings. Very high mineral content in the soil, predominantly granitic sands, worked entirely by horse.
This Clos has been in the family for at least 7 generations, and has been biodynamic since the 1980s. Antoine replanted it to Gewurtztraminer in 2008, and it is just beginning to give grapes of beautiful intensity, perfect for making a macerated wine.
Domaine Marc Kreydenweiss (Alsace, FRA)
Domaine Marc Kreydenweiss produces biodynamic wines in Alsace and in the Rhone Valley. The winery has been certified since 1989. Today, Kreydenweiss farms a little less than 30 acres of vineyards in Alsace, which includes portions of 3 Grand Cru vineyards: Kastelberg, Moenchberg, and Weibelsberg. Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Blanc vines dominate the plantings, but Kreydenweiss has other varieties planted, such as Pinot Noir.
