Terre de l'Elu 'Bastingage' Blanc 2023 (Chenin Blanc)
Bastingage" is the flagship white wine for Terre de l`Elu. The grapes come from 3 different parcels (Les Barres, L`Aiglerie, Chaumes), which are vinified separately and blended at the end of the ageing process. "Bastingage" is the name for the rail that goes around a sailboat.
This Chenin Blanc is sourced from old vines grown in the Anjou region of the Loire Valley, known for its diverse soils of schist. The wine is fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and aged on lees in oak barrels, adding complexity and depth to the final blend. It’s such a vibrant and expressive wine that showcases the versatility of the Chenin Blanc grape. Bastingage in 2023 is bright and focused, with a lifted and precise bouquet of citrus blossom, green apple and subtle white flowers. The palate is crisp and elegant, driven by vibrant acidity and layers of citrus zest and a touch of almond. Clean and mineral on the finish, this is a more pure, and refreshing expression of the variety.
Enjoy it served around 12 °C. Bastingage can be appreciated now and will continue to improve for at least another decade.
