Domaine Bornard Ploussard Point Barre 2016
A beautiful mature Jura red from Philippe Bornard, made entirely from Ploussard, also known as Poulsard, in Pupillin. Point Barre means “full stop”, which feels very appropriate here: this is Ploussard in its purest, most delicate form.
The wine is pale, light and almost translucent in the glass, but there is plenty going on. Expect red currant, wild strawberry, cherry, a little citrus lift, soft spice, cinnamon, dried herbs, earth and a faint savoury leather note. With age, the fruit has softened into something more autumnal and savoury, while still keeping that bright, lifted Jura freshness.
This is not a big or powerful red. It is all about perfume, texture, transparency and charm. Fine tannin, gentle acidity, silky fruit and that slightly wild Bornard energy make it incredibly drinkable.
