Georges Deschamps Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume 2022
We love this wine, it speaks very much of the estate whilst undeniably blessed by the quality of the fruit. A Chardonnay that oozes glamour, yet remains a wonderful food wine for the Australian palate, favouring all that winter citrus and brightness at the moment in our winter dishes. Lucky, will carry through the Summer. Light to medium, it's dry with a flinty minerality that dances between this Tommy’s Margarita quality, bright little apples, the bite and pluck of sweetcorn and of course, petrichor. Balanced acidity provides structure, while soft edges and a round finish enhance its appeal. A stunning expression of organic winemaking.
Georges Deschamps is the great-grandfather of Guillaume Vrignaud from the well-established Domaine Vrignaud. The family began planting in the appellation 1er cru Fourchaume with the Côte de Fontenay climate in 1955. In 1975, they planted the rest of their vines around Fontenay near Chablis. It is a quality-conscious family with an absolute belief in the importance of work in the vines, respect for nature and biodiversity. 2009 marks the start of organic certification by Ecocert. According to the family, organic farming is a way of thinking, a way of revealing the terroir. In 2012, all wines were certified organic and have been so ever since.
