Georges Deschamps Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume Les Vaupulans 2022

$119.00

Crafted carefully, this Chablis is a lesson in balance when you’ve got powerful and complex aromatics swelling in the base. The textural finesse is a real highlight. There’s a softer acid profile for Chablis electricity, yet it still feels clear. White blossoms, encircle a full body - we got fruits we don’t necessarily associate with young premier cru Chablis - apricot, melon, citrus, and a hint of smoke, culminating in a lingering mineral finish. Yellow citrus oils intertwine with pith, complemented by a chalkiness that gives weight to its phenolics. A subtle leesy funk enhances its classic charm with a hint of individuality. Made from 30-year-old organically farmed Chardonnay, aged on lees in stainless steel. Going to be very interesting looking at this as it ages - we’re excited.

Georges Deschamps is the great-grandfather of Guillaume Vrignaud from the well-established Domaine Vrignaud. The family began planting in the appellation 1er cru Fourchaume with the Côte de Fontenay climate in 1955. In 1975, they planted the rest of their vines around Fontenay near Chablis. It is a quality-conscious family with an absolute belief in the importance of work in the vines, respect for nature and biodiversity. 2009 marks the start of organic certification by Ecocert. According to the family, organic farming is a way of thinking, a way of revealing the terroir. In 2012, all wines were certified organic and have been so ever since.
