Eldorado Road Comrade Nero d'Avola 2023
To be a pioneer takes courage and conviction. It takes belief and passion. And it takes some good "Comrades" to help along the journey.
It took all of these things to create this wonderful Nero d'Avola at Eldorado Road. Paul and Laurie spotted the potential for the variety on their block of land in the foothills of Beechworth and took the punt to plant and champion this variety in the region. The gamble is paying off.
This is Nero with power. The presence and weight, the firmness of the tannin and the richness of the fruit in this wine are remarkable given the age of this vineyard.
There is a joy here to be explored, one that comes with time and a decent decant. Unfined and left to rest on gross lees to build texture in the barrel, the winemaker asks you to let the air – and the sunshine – in. Watch a beauty unfurl in ferrous earth, bramble, dark cherry, purple plums, a wealth of lively spices and dark chocolate. The effect is heightened by a textural field of savoury tannins. This is Nero as you rarely see it. So good.
