Georges Deschamps Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu 2022
Guardian of the family estate's fifth generation, Guillaume Vrignaud champions this Premier Cru excellence with an unmistakable fingerprint seen throughout the wines. This wine shines, with delicate florals - freesia, jonquil, white rose - and purity akin to fresh spring water, glacial. Fruit wise there’s an assertion of green apples, fresh cut and dewy grass, then some richness floating through in the shape of a dollop of mascarpone atop a fresh lemon tart. Approachable yet undeniably there, this is a medium-bodied Chardonnay with not too much phenolic tugging, lively acidity, and a succulence in its aromatics greatly assisted by that flint. A standout expression of Chablis terroir.
Georges Deschamps is the great-grandfather of Guillaume Vrignaud from the well-established Domaine Vrignaud. The family began planting in the appellation 1er cru Fourchaume with the Côte de Fontenay climate in 1955. In 1975, they planted the rest of their vines around Fontenay near Chablis. It is a quality-conscious family with an absolute belief in the importance of work in the vines, respect for nature and biodiversity. 2009 marks the start of organic certification by Ecocert. According to the family, organic farming is a way of thinking, a way of revealing the terroir. In 2012, all wines were certified organic and have been so ever since.
