Nicolas Joly - Clos de la Bergerie 2024 - AOC Savennières - Roche Aux Moines (Savennières,Loire Valley)

Terroir: From a single 2.77-hectare vineyard owned by the Joly family, representing around 10% of the Roche-aux-Moines appellation. Situated mid- slope, this east-facing site adjoins Clos de la Coulée de Serrant and consists of an average vine age of 25 years. The vineyard is planted on schist and quartz soils with a slightly deeper profile (30–80cm) than its monopole neighbour.

Winemaking Notes: Fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts at ambient temperature. The wine goes through full malolactic fermentation naturally, followed by a period of maturation over 8 months in used oak barrels. Unfined and unfiltered before bottling. This wine offers a striking balance of richness and freshness, with notes of ripe stone fruits, green olive and hay set against a backbone of signature Savennières minerality and pithiness.

Alcohol: 14%

The wines are made according to biodynamic practices (since 1980) by the world’s foremost thinker, philosopher and practitioner of biodynamic wine farming, Nicolas Joly. The reputation of the estate, the man and the wines is unquestionable and needs little introduction. These are perhaps the world’s most important wines philosophically when it comes to understanding biodynamic practices, and they are surely the most singular Chenin Blancs on the planet. Considering the significance and longevity of these wines, we think the pricing is nothing short of extraordinary.
